Biofuels may well not prove to be the solution to our energy problems in the long term, but until they’re either replaced with a more sustainable alternative or with another source of renewable energy, there is absolutely nothing to lose by trying them.
It’s important to note that we’ll never get rid of gasoline completely because fuel cells and other technologies will still need a liquid as their input.
However, at least with biofuels we can decrease the amount of gasoline used and give polluting traditional gas-powered vehicles less financial incentive.
